A medium-sized reversible cushion made from French 19th century fabric and pure cotton velvet.

This beautiful French antique fabric (front and back panels) dates from the 1870s and features exotic orchids, other blooms and palmate leaves in soft shades of pink, pastel-blue and cream set against a dramatic black background. The antique fabric panels have been framed by a picot-edged woven jacquard braid in complementary shades of blue and soft yellow (from the London-based 'Hip Haberdasher' VV Rouleaux)

The antique fabric has been teamed with a modern, high-quality British pure cotton velvet in a gorgeous shade of lobelia blue.

Although in good condition, the antique fabric is 150 years old and so the cushion has been interlined to add protection and robustness and all raw fabric edges have been overlocked for a professional finish.

The neutral coloured zip opening is at the base of the cushion which has been generously filled with a British-made feather pad to provide a plump and firm cushion.

The cushion measures approximately 48 x 32 cms.

I have been collecting fragments of beautiful French antique 19th century fabrics for a few years. Depending on their size and condition, I have started to incorporate them into my cushion designs and other items, such as antique lavender love hearts, rather than just leave them wrapped in tissue paper to be taken out and admired from time to time!
