Warners have been purveyors of beautiful fabrics including silks, linen and damask to the Royal Family since 1932 but have a history in the textile business going back to the late 17th Century! They became a leading design house in the 1870s, producing innovative fabrics and designs for a wider audience through to the 1950s and beyond.

St John Tibbitts (a grandson of Frank Warner) oversaw the expansion of the exclusive production of chintzes until 1984 for London decorators such as Colefax & Fowler and this fabric dates from just 4 years after this period. The Warner brand has sat under that of Zimmer and Rhode since 2001.

Given this long and illustrious history, I was thrilled to find a large piece of this unusual chintz fabric whose individual elephant cartouches are perfect for adding to the front of a lovely bag.

I also have a small piece of this fabric in a black cotton colourway which I may transform into something in the future - so watch this space!
