A strongly textured stoneware jar with strong colour variations reflecting the melting of the glaze down through the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent olive where thin and blue where it has pooled in the medallion, the stamped hands and around the foot outside. This hand-built box is perfect for jewelry, spices, condiments, herbs or your small precious items. The jar was made with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- The box measures approximately 11cm tall and 8cm wide and is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe .
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9813.
I enjoy making lidded jars because I am told by that they often get used for safe storage of frequently used items. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. the jar can be used for storing jewelry, in the kitchen for herbs or spices, by the door for keys. I take care to make a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The jar pays homage to my long-term interest in the oriental ceramics with the shape and use of a seal. There is also a sense of movement associated with the vertical and diagonal blue glaze streaks.
