‘Menthe’ Painted wood and macramé necklace inspired by Greek mythology

‘Menthe’ Painted wood and macramé necklace inspired by Greek mythology

Description

I cut and shaped a piece of cherry wood using hand carving tools. I painted my mint inspired design using acrylics and added a beaded macramé cord. I treated the wood with a finish of protective varnish before adding the wire wrapped beaded detail on the centre of the pendant.

The ends are neatly finished with antique gold coloured plated cord ends and a trigger style clasp. The cord is 18 inches long.

Your necklace will come to you in a gift box which has my logo on the lid and is lined with mulberry paper in a shade to complement the necklace. I’ll send it promptly by first class post.

Inspiration

I have a patch of mint outside my back door, as it is so lovely for cooking as well as looking pretty when it comes into flower, with tiny pink blooms.

According to the Greek myth, Menthe tried to seduce Hades, who was the god of the underworld. His wife Persephone changed Menthe into a mint plant as punishment.

Perhaps this is the kind of necklace Menthe might have worn before her transformation!
