Make a pompom musical instrument!
Get crafty with e-textiles (electronic textiles) to make a playful musical instrument.
This easy-to-make DIY kit includes all of the materials and instructions you will need to make an electronic musical instrument, played by squeezing two pompoms. The harder you squeeze - the higher the pitch of the sound!
Follow step-by-step online video instructions, learn about e-textiles and craft with electronics to make your own electronic musical instrument. You will make two noisy pompoms with the included yarn and e-textile material, then attach them to the sound making circuit board, housed within a cardboard box. You'll just need some scissors, a 9v battery, a bit of recycled cardboard (to make the pompoms) and a device to access the simple online instructions web page (phone/tablet/computer).
The kit comes presented in a labelled box which includes:
- a mixed bundle of brightly coloured yarn
- a pair of crocodile clips (black, white, red, yellow or green)
- a bobbin of conductive thread
- a printed circuit board and speaker, housed within a cardboard box
- a link to online step-by-step instructions with supporting videos
A fun, engaging and creative project to do at home, suitable for ages 7 and up.
This one-of-a-kind DIY kit makes for a novel, quirky and unusual gift, or a great STEM home learning project.
The kit is handmade and assembled in the UK, by artist/technologist Sam Topley (www.samantha-topley.co.uk)
