Item details

I have turned bowls of all sorts on my Union Graduate lathe over the years since I first
learned to turn as a young teacher in Bristol on an Union Graduate lathe in the 1970s.
I have turned monster-sized bowls with natural bark edges but the ones I like best are
smaller ones with smooth tops. And as with all my bowls (and much of the rest of my work)
I always sign and date and put on the wood type of that particular piece and where it grew.
This I do with a pyrograph so like a painter signing his work it is my writing not a stamp or a
laser. And putting the provenance of the wood is something else that I always think makes
the bowl rather special. For those customers that want it I also provide a short written
provenance of each piece I make and sign as well. As an ex-teacher of History I have a sort
of inbuilt ability to discover any interesting stories that link trees with anything noteworthy
that happened nearby whilst the timber was growing.
