Welcome to Woolly Daydreams Folksy shop.
Hand Spun wool dyed and spun from sheep that graze our lush Welsh pastures.
The wool in these skeins was bought from a local small holder, straight off the sheep. The sheep are a breed from Scandinavia, the Gotland sheep. Their fleece is long and hangs in curls. The fleece is a natural grey colour, which shows through the teal colour dye.
I wash the fleece then dye it in batches before preparing for spinning on one of my wheels.
One skein is 7-8 wpi, which is about Aran weight, and £24
Two are a little thinner at 10-12 wpi, about DK weight, and £14 each and listed separately.
When spun these locks produce a firm yarn with good drape but no spring to it.
Can be used for knitting, crochet or weaving, but best used alone or with other long lock sheep or mohair yarn.
There will be small inconsistencies in the thickness throughout the skein which is not the case with factory made yarn.
Suggested uses: a hat or mittens, or as an accent feature, contrast or patterns on a larger project.
This wool may be a little prickly for wearing against soft skin.
Hand spun wool does not enjoy machine washing or tumble drying. It is best with a gentle hand wash and air drying flat.
These skeins are OOAK and not repeatable.
I always make sure that my pictures show the true colours on the screen available to me but cannot guarantee they will be on others.
I am happy to wind it into centre pull balls at no extra cost. Please let me know when ordering.
