A strongly textured stoneware jar with a bamboo handle and colour variations reflecting the melting of the glaze down through the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent tan where thin and brown/ blue where it has pooled in the medallion, the stamped running hare and around the foot outside. This hand-built box is perfect for jewelry, spices, condiments, herbs or your small precious items. The jar was made with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- The box measures approximately 14cm tall and 8cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9711.
I love making lidded boxes because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. I take care to make a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The box pays homage to my long-term interest in the oriental ceramics and there are further oriental associations with the use of a seal and the bamboo handle. There is also an energising sense of freedom associated with the hare running through the tall corn.
