An elegant pale grey-green porcelain jar with subtle colour variations reflecting the melting of the glaze on the lid top and in the stamped and wheel-made markings. The glaze is transparent where thin and pale transparent green where it has pooled in the raised hand inside and in the medallion outside. This wheel thrown jar is perfect for spices, condiments, herbs or your small precious items. The jar was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- The jar is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 9cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9719.
I love making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. I take care to make I my jars with a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of their use. The top of the lid is slightly concave to retain a layer of glaze and there are dashes of brush-applied gloss-brown iron oxide to add an abstract visual interest. The inside and white unglazed base are also texture-decorated for surprise enjoyment when handling. This jar pays homage to my long-term interest in the graceful Chinese porcelains of the Song Dynasty.
