Item details
I love our native British wildlife species and landscapes. I was inspired to do a little Wren. I often hear them singing loudly when i’m out walking our dog and get a glimpse of them flying in the undergrowth of scrub and trees.
The latin name is not so cute Troglodytes troglodytes. This means ‘cave dweller’ and refers to them often roosting and also foraging for small insects and spiders amongst crevices.
They are one of the most common birds in the UK and like all breeding birds are protected during the summer breeding period under Countryside and Wildlife Act where it is an offence to disturb or destroy a nest being built or where it is in use with eggs in or chicks until they have fledged. This is why its important to undertake any tree and hedge trimming in winter and not in the summer When they are breeding to prevent breaking the law.
