Item details

Reclaimed wood panel, hand-painted with watercolour with added gold leaf. Wooden edges are sealed with decorative copper tape.
Size- 32.5cms wide by 9.5cms high, with a depth of 1.5cms with hanging fittings on back.

Image is of 2 birds dreaming peacefully, each with smaller birds nestled within their feathers. There are two red hearts between them denoting love and as always with all the birds that I paint, they wear crowns. The background is a blue wash.

I painted this panel to create a piece of art that may be hung in a home to soothe the soul. I find birds are inspiring, spiritual and peaceful creatures that sing us back to ourselves.

When the current crisis started I wasn't sure as an artist how to react, I felt that I needed to let my friends and family know how much I cared for them and to remind them to 'stay safe'. This led to me to adapting an existing personal motif I already use in my artwork into a symbolic image that I could repeat, paint and send out to all my close friends and family. The image tries to capture the calm of a peaceful dreaming bird, safe on her nest. Everyone who received this image on paper loved it and it has inspired me to create this longer lasting, significant piece of art. This double image of the dreaming birds hopefully symbolises a family unit and their love and care for their own 'flock'.
