Creating a bee friendly garden is more than just planting flowers. Gorgeous blooms will surely attract them but you want to provide a source of water that is easy and safe to have access to. While you can easily make your own at home, we have made a few truly unique baths for your pollinating guests. As with many of our Cats and Birds designs we combined vintage and hand decoration so that each bath is a unique piece that will be a joy for you, for your garden and definitely for all those hard working bees.

No matter the size of your garden, just leave these out filled with a little water (making sure that the pebbles are not covered) and change it if it gets dirty.

Materials: we used vintage saucers, plates, bowl and placed hand painted pebbles, stones and shells in them. The paint we used is non toxic and will stand the sun as well as it it waterproof.

Why Do Bees Need Water?

Beekeepers know the importance of having water available for bees. They collect water for a variety of reasons:
to dilute honey – bees use water to manage the consistency of honey and thin out honey that has crystallized,
to help with digestion – just like us, bees need water to aid in their digestion,
to keep the hive cool – these smart little creatures will add water to the hive and fan it with their wings, air-conditioning the space by cooling it down,and to feed the babies – the nurse bees that feed the larvae need plenty of water to create the right baby food (royal jelly).
