Hand made mini weather station
Description
Here we have a mini weather station consisting of a thermometer and a genuine antique barometer, mounted in a beautifully colourful piece of wood with 2 independent legs made from the same wood. The wood is gleditsia sia,a North American tree. I was fortunate enough to get hold A large piece of this tree, the colours and ring patterns are really unique and the finish is exceptionally smooth to the touch. I think the antique barometer works ok, it does move but I dont know how accurate it is. There are very fine hair line cracks in the wood, these occurred whilst the wood was drying, they are nothing to worry about, the wood will constantly expand and contract depending on it’s environment. This is a lovely little piece, it really shows the beauty of this particular wood. The dimensions are 14cms wide 9cms deep 23cms high.
Inspiration
The wood used in this piece I got from a neighbour ,it was a large tree and starting to cause damage to the driveway, so it was taken down when I saw the colours and patterns in the wood I was amazed, I had to have it! My neighbour kindly gave me most of the trunk , so I’ve been making as many things as I can to showcase the real beauty of this wood. More goodies to come soon.
