The wood holding this unusual clock is hawthorn, a dense strong wood, you don’t see it used very often, despite the clocks fragile appearance it really is quite robust. The wood has a deep rich colour and the finish is as smooth as glass, just a couple of coats of clear varnish to enhance and protect the wood. The base is made of pine with a lovely grain running through it and its cut In a similar way to the hawthorn. It’s actually 4 pieces of wood with the clock holding it together. The clock itself is a gold coloured skeleton clock you can see right through it and see all the moving parts. It’s powered by 1 AAA battery ( not supplied) and has a quartz movement to keep accurate time.
I’m not really sure what I was thinking when I made this clock, the wood holding the clock started out as part of an abstract sculpture I was doing but then over time it sort of evolved and ended up being a clock! Happens quite a lot, I have an idea of what I want to make, but the wood has other ideas! I just go with the flow, always works out in the end.
