The wood for this skeleton clock came from the centre of the tree trunk, it’s called the heart wood it’s the densest and most colourful part of the trunk, there are shades or brown, orange and yellow running through the rings of this wood creating stunning patterns, the base has the same colours but different patterns due to the way it was cut. The skeleton clock is secured to the wood which is then attached to the base using dowels and glue. The clock itself is very interesting it’s silver in colour and you can see all the moving parts, it’s a bit hypnotic! It’s powered by 1 AAA battery ( not supplied ) and has a quartz movement to keep accurate time. This is a really unique clock and looks great anywhere in the house. There are very fine hair line cracks in the wood , these occur when the wood is drying and are nothing to worry about, the wood will expand and contract depending on it’s environment. The dimensions are 16cms wide 8cms deep 22cms high.
My neighbour had a beautiful tree growing in the garden he planted it 40 years ago, it’s called gleditsia sia, from North America, Unfortunately it got to large and the roots were damaging the driveway, so it had to come down and the roots dug up, the top half of the tree was burned, I got the bottom half and some roots! The wood is so beautiful I’m trying to make as many things out of it as possible. So keep checking my shop many more goodies to come!
