This lovely tactile little art glass dish is part of my 'lockdown sketchbook' series inspired by my local coastal landscape. It's perfect for holding a small collection of shells or beach treasures but would also make a great soap dish or trinket tray.
This dish has has a warm golden yellow base with a layer of frothy white and trails of blue-black which appear almost metallic. It has a wonderfully tactile matte top surface, slightly uneven, organic edges, and a 'secret' - a highly polished underside.
Golden yellow fused glass dish handmade by me in my glass studio on the edge of the Wirral peninsula.
The shallow dish is 13cm square.
During the first lockdown period, in common with many artists, I went back to working in a sketchbook more regularly. This series of dishes grew directly from that work when I started to experiment with ways to replicate the colours and marks of my sketchbook drawings on glass.
I create these dishes from layers of coloured glass powder and clear glass fused together in my kiln. I then smooth and shape the edges of the dish before firing it again to shape it. Each kiln firing typically takes up to 24 hours.
