Item details
Lampworking is a type of glasswork where a lamp or torch is predominantly used to melt the glass. Once in a liquefied state, the glass is formed by shaping and blowing with tools and hand movements.
This process is also recognised as torchworking or flameworking.
It is difficult to ascertain when lampworking was first established. The primary provable lampwork glass is more than likely to be an assortment of the beads which is thought to date back to the 5th century BC.
Recognisable glass work is Murano Glass, which has been manufactured in Murano, Italy, possibly in the 14th Century.
