This is a 2/3 scale replica of the Torksey Ware Pitcher found in Coppergate, York.

It has been hand coiled and then smoke fired to give it the same look as the original, which was excavated at the Coppergate site in York and is believed to be from the 9th to 10th century.

An interior coating of bees wax has been applied to this pitcher to give it a degree of water-tightness.

Diameter - 32cm approx.
Height - 26cm approx.

The slightly porous nature of the finish means that surface evaporation will keep the contents cool, and if hung from the rafters of your longhouse it will help to keep the mice and husband out of the contents.
