An intriguingly stylised silhouette of the deHavilland Tiger Moth – a biplane dating from the 1930s and operated by the RAF in the Second World War.

It is a collage created from digitally-manipulated fragments of drawings I have made of historic aircraft engines, embellished with metallic ink and little gems. The design is sealed with a water-based transparent glue to keep everything firmly in place. The background is painted black; I used heavy-body acrylic applied with a palette knife to add interest and extra texture.
This unique artwork is on stretched canvas on a wooden frame, is signed on the front and comes with some guidelines on how you can care for it to keep it looking beautiful for many years. Please note the back of the canvas is slightly stained – it’s nothing horrid, just paint showing through.
It doesn’t need framing – the back is finished with D-rings and a cord so it’s ready to hang on the wall; alternatively it would look great displayed on a surface on a little easel – or just casually propped on a shelf.
Delivery within the UK is included in the price. I will send it carefully packaged, by 2nd class Royal Mail, within 3 days of receiving payment.
Wherever possible, I use recycled packaging to send out my artwork. This may not look as pretty as custom or brand-new packaging but it keeps costs down and of course is less wasteful and kinder to the environment!
Something a bit different from my usual subjects!
Bruton Art Society, of which I am a member, organised a painting day at the Fleet Air Arm Museum which is quite near us in Somerset. Rather daunted by the idea of painting or drawing the aircraft themselves, I was nevertheless intrigued by the historic engines on display. I made several sketches of the engine details, then at home photographed the sketches, digitally manipulated them to provide variety in tone and scale, and printed out photocopies. Then I used torn-up fragments of the photocopies to construct this image.
Created with care in my studio, tucked away behind a delightful walled garden in the heart of the ancient abbey town of Sherborne.
