A distinctive hardwood chopping /food preparation board, made from English Elm. This board has a unique and beautiful grain pattern, and has colour variations ranging from a light brown, through to creamy golden browns then a darker brown all on the one board. Elm is a strong and durable wood and resistant to water so makes it ideal in the kitchen environment. The board has a natural knot (hole) which has been filled with a blue resin not only to seal and level the surface, but to add a touch of interest without distracting from the natural appearance of the wood. Both sides of the board have beveled edges giving the user a double sided board. All our boards are sanded to a satin finish and wax finished with our own blend of food safe refined beeswax and medicinal grade mineral oil. English Elm as mature trees have dominated the British Landscape since the Bronze age and been used in furniture, boat making, wooden water pipes as well as decorative pieces. Unfortunately since the 1960's it has fallen victim to Dutch Elm disease and is now only found occasionally as a shrub in hedgerows or woodland. So we where delighted to have the opportunity to work with this lovely wood and make pieces to hopefully grace someones kitchen for many years.
