Description

Wooden bowls and platters are probably the main objects connected with woodturning. They are 'turned' from a large selection of woods, and come in many, many sizes and varying designs and purpose. It is whilst turning bowls, that a 'turner' can, not only express his/her artistic talent, but also show off the beautiful grain and colour of the wood. It is a wonderful feeling, when the turning and sanding is done, to see the colour of the wood 'pop' as you apply the finish.
I have 'turned' a lot of bowls over the years, here are a few of them.
No 8, in the photo is crafted from my favourite wood, cherry, with a little natural edge, with its mellow, orange/brown colours, even a hint of light green, and wonderful grain pattern. It is a shallow bowl, only 1.5"- 4cm deep and 7.5" - 20cm diameter

Inspiration

Turning bowls and platters seems to bring out the colour and grain of the wood better than anything.
