A blue lidded box with colour variations reflecting the melting and thickness of the glaze in the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent blue where thin and a darker blue if thick. The stamped fish decoration seemed to cry out for transparent blue glaze. The brown markings are from iron oxide brush- applied at the time of glazing.
This lidded box is perfect for coffee beans, herbs, keys or your small precious items.
It was hand-built with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The handle is a cotoneaster twig screwed to the lid.
-:All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- As with all my pottery, the box is food safe but it has a varnished wood handle so it should not be put in a dishwasher.
- The box measures approximately 11cm tall and 10cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9522.
I love making lidded pots because, while they take time to make, I am told that they often get used regularly and with a special pleasure when they store a small treasured items or even easily lost keys. What a nice way to enjoy something handmade in your daily routine. I take care to make my jars look attractive but I also want them to have a well-fitting lid. The handle is a twig from a bush adjacent to my pottery studio. I always keep an eye open for potential pot handles when I am pruning woody shrubs. The lid of the jar has a flat top to retain a thicker layer of glaze and obtain a richer blue colour.
