A rich tan and blue glaze on a stoneware mug that pools to a blue grey at the foot, around the handle and in the base. The iron oxide decoration provides abstract shapes for early morning meditation while drinking.
A robust wheel-thrown stoneware mug. The foot is unglazed and flat to avoid pooling and spillage of dishwasher water.
The mug was thrown with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
-: All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- As with all my pottery, items are food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The mug measures approximately 11cm tall and 9cm wide excluding the handle and holds about 0.3 litres (half a pint).
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9678.
I make mugs for people to enjoy particularly at the start of the day. They give me privileged access when there is time to appreciate the form, decoration and colours. I often get feedback regarding strong personal attachment and ownership. Because mugs are in frequent use they may get damaged and there are often requests for a similar replacement. I then know that the mug, just a simple drinking vessel, has met the owners requirements. Oriental tea bowls can command similar or even higher aesthetic status. The clay, texture and glaze used for this mug were selected to give a colour range that you might see in vanGogh's paintings. My greeting is a hand stamp in the base which is seen when the mug is emptied.
