Description

An ice-blue celadon glaze on a porcelain mug. The glaze is transparent with crackle where thicker towards the base and at the foot of the lightly textured handle.
An elegant wheel-thrown porcelain mug with a raised hand centrally stamped internally. The foot is unglazed white porcelain flat so that it does not retain dishwasher water. The mug is perfect for a calming start to the day.
The mug was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- As with all my pottery, items are food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The mug measures approximately 10cm tall and 9cm wide excluding the handle and holds about 0.3 litres (half a pint).
-The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9637.

Inspiration

I love making mugs because they are a challenge to make and they are often the first thing to get used each day. What a nice way for an artist to add something handmade to a daily routine! A lot of people tell me mugs are very personal items and sometimes prove it by buying similar replacement if they are unfortunate enough to have a breakage. I take care in making my mugs look beautiful and functional. The shape of this particular mug feels great in the hand and the base is flat so that it drains before it comes out of the dishwasher. The cool, ice blue celadon glaze on this mug is more about subtle effects than strong contrast and it was often used in Song Dynasty imperial porcelain.
