Item details

An elegant red and white porcelain octagonal bowl with colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into the stamped markings. The outside glaze is transparent white where thin and red if thicker to show the stamped dots and fish on alternate faces. The glaze has pooled to rich red inside. The bowl was thrown with a UK porcelain and shaped octagonal while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This octagonal bowl is perfect for breakfast cereal, tapas or it could simply be displayed just for its cheerful appearance.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- The bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 11cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9643.

– I really like the whole process of throwing and shaping bowls. There is plenty of scope for creativity with regard to form, there is an upper surface for artistic treatment and an underside for adding an element of unexpected pleasure. When the bowl is turned over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P will be seen. The outer wall shows stamped marks through a red-white glaze and the underside is more lightly glazed to give a transparent white at the foot. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites conversation and handling. Equally it could be directly functional for serving snacks or tapas.
