Cotton Reel Holder and Pin Cushion
Description
These beautiful bobbin or cotton reel holders are hand turned in three sections from pine. They are about 100 mm tall and the base, which stands on three button feet, is about 140 mm in diameter. There are 11 tapered pegs for cotton reels and a small pincushion in the top section. The pincushion is made from some pretty fabric formed over a plug of polystyrene with a soft Kapoc top. They are quite lovely.
Inspiration
These are quite technical to make as there are lots of components and pine isn't easy to turn so that it comes up glass smooth. But they are one of my favourites. Pine is such a beautiful wood, strongly grained and it will gradually turn amber over time.
