Item details

Planting tool that make life easier for all gardeners - use in the conservatory, greenhouse and garden. Has a silky patina with wandering pretty grain and some very attractive knots. This wood came from Stapleford Tawney in Essex, where a mate of mine is the forester and we specially chose this lovely timber from an overgrown coppice that he's thinning out, last worked in 1945 - we counted the growth rings, that's how I know! Like all my dibbers it's super durable and can be used indoors or out. it's finished with a light seasoning if linseed oil and is ready to use - great for leeks, cabbages, bulbs and all your garden plants. The lines are burnt on by friction with inch markings so you can see how far it's been pushed in!
Measures 18cm long and 4cm at the widest point.

Beautiful wood from a fantastic magical overgrown coppice I walked around with an estate worker. Trees had to be attended to and I was the lucky recipient of a trunk from a picturesque but colossal Ash stool. I'll be able to go back to that very same spot in 5 years and it will have grown back enough to have wood for tool handles - excellent forestry practice...
