Item details

This Pottery Toadstool was thrown on the potters wheel in one piece, then embellished on the top with small cup shapes also thrown on the wheel.
After careful drying and an initial firing in the kiln, the toadstool is then strong enough to be dipped, sponged and dribbled with stoneware glazes to create a interesting and tactile texture.
After a second kiln firing, the Toadstool is then strong enough to be frost resistant in able to be displayed out in the garden or indoors.

This garden art work is 14 cm high, 13.5 cm across and a base of 7.5 cm in diameter.

The finish on the stalk is more matt / satin feel, with a more gloss like surface on the cap.

Inspiration comes from the many layers of plants, wildlife and insects that make up the Woodlands and Canals on my doorstep.
Since childhood, I have always loved the shapes/ textures of mushrooms and toadstools.They are really nice shapes to make on the potters wheel. Sometimes I make them in one piece or in two pieces with the top being a bowl turned upside down.
