With the stunning Cornish coast on my studio doorstep, I paint to try to convey the sheer beauty of the beaches of Cornwall. I am mesmerised by the immense power of the waves and the colours that appear in the deep waters. I paint so that people can feel the sea spray on their skin and the sand between their toes.

“Wave Crest” was one of my first ventures into wave art. The beautiful curves that can be seen while wave watching are awe inspiring. This was my main focus for this piece, creating the perfect wave crest. I also have paid particular attention to the way the top of the wave begins to gravitate back down towards the deep dark sea below.

Painted in my home studio – or in the garden under the glorious sun – in Cornwall

Inspired by the clean waves that come rolling in at Fistral beach in Newquay, a surfer’s paradise for many years. Surfers flock here to ride the infamous waves and I have spent many hours watching their incredible talent. The perfect waves of Fistral were always going to be the one I based this piece on.
