With the stunning Cornish coast on my studio doorstep, I paint to try to convey the sheer beauty of the beaches of Cornwall. I am mesmerised by the immense power of the waves and the colours that appear in the deep waters. I paint so that people can feel the sea spray on their skin and the sand between their toes.

“Shoreline: Holywell Bay” is part of my Aerial Shoreline collection and was painted with a specific time of year in mind – winter. The bitterly cold wind on my face, walking along the sand while looking out to sea to the myriad of blues and crashing waves. I wanted to portray those beautiful blues of the ocean on this piece. Even in winter those blues are mesmerising. I have focused on texture in the crashing white water and cold sand under foot.

Winters in Cornwall, in my opinion are as beautiful as the blisteringly hot summers days. The cold crisp winds, the raw beauty of the coastline, the cold sand under foot, the fresh sea air. Winter walks along beaches like Holywell Bay are glorious and I wanted to convey that in this piece. This is one of my favourite winter walking spots and I wanted to emulate its beauty, particularly the colours that you can still witness at this time of year.
