Original pyrography artwork of classic racing yacht "Marigold".

Designed by the renowned Charles Nicholson and built in the Camper and Nicholson yard in Gosport, Hampshire in 1892, "Marigold" is an 80ft gaff-cutter now fully restored to her former glory. Some owners name their boats after a person, often a wife or daughter. The original owner, a Mr WE Foster, named his daughter (born in 1929) after his yacht! Now that's loving your boat! Designed as a racing yacht, Marigold is reputed to be able to average 16 knots - I know a lot of modern yachts that can't go that fast!! As a keen sailor, my knowledge of how sails set really helps when drawing sailboats. In this work, the sails are straining with the brisk wind coming from the 'port quarter' (left-rear) of the ship. Drawn on plywood, it measures aprox 355 x 260mm framed, and is ready to hang on your wall. This artwork took about 7 hours to complete.

I love drawing sail boats. I saw "Marigold" sailing in Plymouth Sound in 2010, and took a load of photos of her as she sailed serenely by the pier I was standing on.
