Mevagissey Boats Aqua - a black and white handmade linocut print made by my own hand and printed on archival paper, then handpainted with watercolours.
After a brilliant day at the Eden Project we headed down to Mevagissey to get a glimpse of this bustling harbour. Walking to the harbour wall I saw this cluster of fishermen's boats and just had to create a linocut of this scene of boats and ropes.
Each original print has been made completely by hand. I make my linocut prints by drawing out an original sketch and transfer this onto a lino block. I carve out every intricate detail which can take hours, days or even weeks. I ink up the block and carefully place paper onto it. To finish I burnish the paper with a wooden spoon until the ink slowly transfers onto the paper. Peeling back the paper is so rewarding, revealing the finished print. Once dry I hand paint each print with watercolours.
Image size: 10.5" x 6.5" (26.4cm x 16.2cm)
Paper size is 14" x 11" (35.6cm x 27.9cm)
The print fits in most standard 14" x 11" frames, or can be mounted in a 40cm x 30cm Ikea frame shown in the photos.
Printed on archival paper with vegetable based ink.
Each print is unique and will vary slightly as it's an original print.
I carefully package all orders. Prints come rolled in a postal tube.
We spent a day at the Eden Project and then headed into Mevagissey on a beautiful summer evening. Wandering along the quayside we saw this little cluster of fishing boats creating amazing light an shade and fascinating shapes.
