A beautiful Dragonfly design wooden inlay brooch.
The base is made from a 70mm x 55mm mahogany disc into which cut segments of Tulip Wood (Liriodendron) and Sapele are inlaid. The technique of creating wooden inlays involves carving the design into the mahogany base and then carefully cutting out pieces of a contrasting coloured wood veneer and inserting these into the base. On the Dragon fly design the body and out are made from Tulip Wood and the inner wings from Sapele. The three contrasting shades of wood result in a very pleasing overall design.

The Brooch is supplied in a 90 x 90mm presentation box making a perfect gift for any occasion.

There is something magical and other worldly about seeing a Dragonfly darting and hovering above the grasses and flowers and I've always been captivated by these wonderful creatures.
I wanted capture the intricacy of their double pair of wings so I used two differing woods for the inlays with the grain pattern of the Sapele resembling the tracery of the wings.
