Conwy Mussel Shell made at MidasTouch Jewels by Patsy in Wales
This is a beautiful and very distinctive pendant made in fine silver and gold, from a real mussel shell from Conwy, the home of the famous North Wales, Menai Straits Mussels that appear on top menus all over Europe.
Made in silver clay with 9ct gold barnacles the shell is unique. This is a chunky piece of jewellery measuring approximately 8cms x 4cms. Barnacles stick onto mussels as they age and are fascinating. The use of these natural objects creates really unusual jewellery.
The bail for the chain is attached to the back of the shell and makes the shell appear to float.

The World Heritage Mussel Centre in Conwy is a short distance away (personally I think these are the tastiest Mussels in the World, which is why they are exported all over the world). I digress .. with the centre nearby the beaches are covered in Mussel shells. Young one are small and smooth but the old large ones are gnarled and covered with barnacles, these most interesting ones of all. They make a lovely, chunky pendant.
