Design: This unique necklace is made up of old and new beads from Africa.

History: The multicoloured ones are rare old trade beads sent out from Venice between the 1880s and 1920s. These would have been used as currency at that time.

Condition: Because these beads have 'lived rough' for over a century, they bear the scars of their journey, so you may find small chips in some which speak of their well travelled history and don't detract from their beauty (in my opinion).
Likewise, the contemporary recycled - glass beads are not factory made so each one has its own quirkiness and may not be 'perfect' in its shape or make up. They are made in small workshops with very basic equipment and have a very special charm of their own.

Presentation: The necklace will be sent in a gift box. I can send it to another address for you and will include a handwritten note if requested.

I find these rare old Venetian trade beads fascinating. The process of making them is so complex and no two are quite the same. I don't mind that some of them are chipped - it just shows how old they are and how well-travelled. I love the fact that we are adding something to their history.
