Description

Soft, organic muslin cotton from GOTS certified mills has been used to create this shibori hand-made scarf. Designed to wrap and layer around the neck to keep the wearer warm now the weather is getting colder. A versatile, laid back accessory, that can equally be worn with a dress or jeans. Measures approx. 128cm by 128cm.

I have botanically tie-dyed this scarf using black tea and iron water on top of the palest pink madder dye. Along with the raw seams, this gives the scarf a beautifully distressed appearance.

The chemical-free dyeing process is labour intensive as each step takes time and patience - roughly 4 weeks; a quiet protest to the ‘fast, thoughtless and disposable’ way of producing items in modern society. Plant dyeing fabric is a sustainable way of producing unique colours and is kinder to the planet.

Wash, using an eco friendly detergent, preferably below 30°C. Dry out of bright sunlight. I only use plant dyes that are colourfast and historically give long lasting results. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and deodorants.

All packaging is plastic free - paper tape, recycled cardboard boxes, padding and corn starch. All of these materials are biodegradable. The corn starch bags are compostable.

Inspiration

Inspired by the many rock pools I gaze into whilst visiting beaches in Wales. I decided to dye the cotton first using the palest madder dye, then to tie dye over that using black tea and iron water. The shell like shapes on this scarf, remind me of barnacles found clinging to steel-coloured rocks.
