This delightful angel stands about 10” or 15 cm high. She has been lovingly made from fine cotton with a wire frame work so she can stand alone. She is individually designed and hand-made and there is a rich layering of different fabrics, hand-painted silk edging, embroidery, lacework and antique dressmaker's beads, as is befitting for a messenger of good news.
The Angel’s hair is made of natural, hand-spun wool, her wings are upcycled embroidery backed by stiff linen paper antique lace.

I hope that this figure will represent a sense of love and harmony that is found in the folklore and traditions of Angels that exists in every culture.
She is a decorative item and is not a toy.

I had to take a longer break than expected, back again on the edge of the lovely Lake District.

I have always been fascinated by the wonderful colours and fabrics used by peoples all over the World to produce traditional costumes of infinite variety and beauty. These inspired me to try to re-create a feeling of those costumes along with a sense of a passing-on of tradition.
I have been inspired by the beautiful textiles, beads and threads which I have been given or have bought over many years and I also wanted to use my grandmother’s dressmaker’s beads from the early 1920s, wool that was spun by my Aunt, and some wonderful bits of bling given to me by a fashionable lady in her nineties. I hope I have made something unique and lasting that celebrates these beautiful textiles and gives them a new purpose.
