Item details

Unique bevelled backboard design with hand cut, hand shaped pegs. The pegs are cut 'with the grain' so that they are very strong. Each peg is glued and screwed to the backboard. This coat rack is finished in a water resistant matt oil so that wet coats and clothing will not damage and mark the surface. A very simple 'screw to the wall' fixing method is used to fix this rack to a wall (fixings supplied). This is the 3 peg version but I also make as standard a 4 peg, 5 peg (pictured) and 6 peg version (see my other listings).

I had tried a number of prototype designs for oak coat racks but was not happy with any of them. I was working on a panel for a cupboard door with a bevelled edge when I realised that I could use the bevel as a way of giving an angle to a peg. I quickly slipped a suitable spare piece of oak through the spindle moulder (machine that shapes wood) to create a bevel and then tried some of the prototype pegs on it. After much further trying and refining I came up with this final design. It has proved to be pretty popular - I've sold these to people in the UK, Europe and the US.
