There’s nothing radioactive about these mixed media earrings! Perfect for the lover of science or the periodic table, these square shaped dangle earrings are an ideal gift for the Science Geek!

These square scrabble tiles feature the element Uranium, its atomic number, symbol and full name have been etched into the surface. I have decorated these MDF (FSC approved) shapes with gold metallic acrylic artists quality paint, then added layers of two embossing enamels (or UTEE) - aged gold and aged green.

The reverse of these earrings have been finished with a layer of gold metallic acrylic paint and satin varnish. I've drilled a hole at the top of each scrabble tile, added an antique bronze bail and matching lever back earwires.

These earrings will come to you packed and protected in an eco-friendly, recycled kraft card earring box that is made by a UK-based company that recycles UK and EU paper/card.

PLEASE NOTE: These earrings are imperfect and not up to my perfection of rigorous quality control, but instead of them languishing in the bottom of my seconds bin, I thought I would offer them at a reduced price. The small defect is on one earring only - unfortunately, the embossing enamel spilled over onto the 'n' and slightly on the 9 of the 92 on one earring only. In all other respects they are great quality.

A little bit of a science lesson: Uranium is a chemical element with the symbol U and atomic number 92. The 1789 discovery of uranium in the mineral pitchblende is credited to Martin Heinrich Klaproth (from Germany), who named the new element after the recently discovered planet Uranus and is weakly radioactive because all isotopes of uranium are unstable. Its density is about 70% higher than that of lead, and slightly lower than that of gold or tungsten.

I love trying to guess the lowest answer on the tv show Pointless when there's a Periodic Table round! When I saw these chemical element scrabble tiles, I thought this was a great way to create some unique jewellery for all the other Science Geeks out there!
