Item details
The design depicts a banner held aloft by two swallows, that reads " In the waves of change we find our true direction". Other nautical themed symbols also appear along the length of the belt surrounding the banner.
The Red and Green stars at the ends of the banner denote Port and Starboard.
The swallows were popular with sailors for tattoos to show their sailing experience and were also associated with the idea of return.
Another popular tattoo was the Nautical Star, representing the North Star, which was historically used by sailors for navigation. This symbol was believed to help keep a sailor on course and ultimately guide him home.
Anchors were also a popular symbol for tattoos, being the most secure object in a sailors life at sea. The perfect representation of stability or of what kept them steady.
