Meet Harriet Hare. In this listing she is available as ‘rusty’ Harriet in cold-cast IRON with metallic wax highlights.
She is an almost life-size sculpture of a Brown Hare, which as well as being native to the British countryside is also an ancient Pagan symbol representing new beginnings and fertility.
‘Harriet’ was sculpted originally from modelling wax over a period of a about a year, on and off. She was then moulded locally in the Cumbrian Lake District. This animal figurine is a strict limited edition of 150 pieces which are made to order by hand here in the UK in three different finishes.
As well as this cold-cast iron version, she is also available with a verdigris finish over lacquered bronze, and as’Moon-lit’ Harriet in cold-cast pewter.
Harriet is approximately 16” to her tallest ear and weighs a hefty 6kg.
She is suitable for both inside and outside use; please just choose from the variations when ordering (she must be sealed with lacquer for outside use to protect the finish).
I have wanted to sculpt a Hare for a long time, and Harriet here took a long time to sculpt once I eventually started! Hares are native to the British countryside and have been symbolic back through time... there’s just ‘something’ rather special about them. I also donate a percentage of each sale to the Hare preservation Trust which aims to protect the native Hare and to educate the public.
