I kept the main trunk wood from a lilac tree/bush that was cut down in my garden about 5 years ago, with the view to turning it on the lathe once it was dried, just as an experiment really as I didn't know what it would be like to use.
To my surprise I find it to be beautiful hard wood, sometimes a little difficult to work but its amazingly tactile when finished.
