In 1989 the Deal barracks bombing was an attack by the provisional IRA on the Royal Marines Depot in Deal killing 11 Royal Marines and wounding 21.
Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust were instrumental in having a permanent memorial built in the town. They rely on charitable donations. 25% from the sale of each flower is donated to the Trust at their annual Royal Marines Memorial Concert.
