I'm Andrea, a full time glass artist living and working in the valleys of South Wales
During the Covid-19 restrictions - I intend to keep my Folksy shop l open. I am able to accept and dispatch orders. Although I always aim to send out orders as quickly as possible, please be aware that I post only via Royal Mail, and it may currently take a little longer than usual for any parcels to arrive at their destination. Any changes and I'll update you here.
To make things easier for you, I can gladly gift wrap any presents, add a hand-written note and send them directly to the recipient at no extra charge – just leave me a note and details when you checkout.
This is a unique, hand cut fused glass beach hut scene. Each beach hut scene has been individually cut out of sheets glass. The base glass was cut and decorated with layers of fine powdered glass of different colours to represent the sand and the sky then fused. While fusing of the base was taking place, the beach huts themselves were cut and assembled in layers. The layered beach huts were fused at a different temperature to allow them to be more tactile. I also made some handmade murrini flowers with my lampwork torch, to enable further detail to be added.
Once both layers are fused, the base layer has small details such as the sun, birds, animals and some plants hand painted with enamel. This is then allowed to dry, and the pre-fused beach huts and the flower murrini are placed on the base layer.
Then the whole thing gets another visit to the kiln in order to fuse the huts and murrini to the base glass, and also fuse the enameled details to make them permanent.
Each piece is guaranteed to be a one off piece of glass art - with differing details.
After the final kiln visit, the piece is mounted to a foam board and framed. The frame size is 21cm x 30cm, and the piece can be free standing or wall hung.
I was asked by a friend if I had any beach huts, and I wanted to make something other than my oft made suncatchers. Customers had also been asking for panels with scenes, as opposed to free standing waves and arches (which I also make).
The beach huts were born.
I have been making them since April 2019, and these are among first that I've managed to get into my online shop.
