In a move away from the larger automata that I make and following a visit to an exhibition at Japan House in London I was inspired to design some automata using cherry wood, as was often used in Japanese automata. I also worked on a design that escaped the usual "cams in a box" lay out, exposing the workings and minimising the support structures.
