Stylised leaf shaped pendant made from vitreous opaque enamel on copper with a silver plated curb chain (lead and nickel free) and in a presentation box. The chain/cord is about 20"/51cm long. The pendant is 4.5cm (just under 1 3/4") long and 2.2cm (just under 1") at the widest point. The pendant is white with coloured, mostly green, dots.
I make these necklaces by adding layers of powdered enamel (which is basically powdered glass) onto the copper and heating to over 800C for each layer to melt and bind the enamel onto the surface of the copper. The enamels are lead free and I use opaque enamels and transparent enamels. The opaque enamels give a slightly shiny solid colour, whereas the transparents are a little sparkly and more shiny, giving them a bit more character, but also a less of a defined bright colour. The back of the piece is also enamelled (in black) which stops the piece from warping too much in the kiln. The back may be slightly dull in places or a little uneven because to put the piece in the kiln it has to rest on a stand which can dig in a bit or mark the surface. Every item I make is unique.
After a taster course in enamelling I fell in love and set about learning more. I love trying new things and seeing how the enamels interact.
