This sweet lavender bag is made from the corner of a vintage embroidered tray cloth and is filled with dried lavender from The World of Lavender near York. On the front is an embroidery of a sunrise peeping over a mountain of cottage garden flowers, and I have made the back from a faded piece of cut back embroidery from an old tablecloth, which allows the scent to escape freely.
For ever and a day, the lovely lavender has been used to promote healthy sleep, keep wardrobes smelling fresh, and avoid annoying moths. This pretty vintage embroidery design could be stored in a drawer with a bride’s dress or trousseau. It would also make a sweet housewarming present, or as a gift for an embroiderer or fabric lover.
This little bag measures 8 cm by 8 cm
Inside is nestling a tiny muslin pillow filled with English lavender from North Yorkshire.
The front is made from embroidered linen and the back from embroidered cut back cotton.
There is a practical hook for popping onto a clothes hanger or hanging up in a bedroom, to keep the air sweet.
The front and back are made from different sections of vintage embroidery, and create a different design front and back.
The bag is finished off with my own embroidered name tag.
I like to reuse as much as possible. Your little bag will be posted out to you wrapped in clean, recycled packaging.
It will be posted by Royal Mail 2nd class with proof of posting which takes 3 days.
This is a carefully worked tiny section of embroidery, stitched by nimble fingers, probably dating back as far as the 1920’s or 30’s. It has a period charm, and is very nostalgic.
The tiny embroidered corner makes a perfect lavender bag, whilst vintage table linens with their pierced embroidery, are perfect for allowing the scent to escape through the tiny holes in a perfumed haze.
