A very warm welcome to our Folksy shop.

Our waney-edged cheeseboards, food planks, table-centres and conversation pieces are patiently crafted from native British wood. Our pieces are characterised by their dramatic grain configuration, gnarly knots, branch buds and burrs and eccentric form. All food boards are fine sanded and finished with food safe oil. We provide care kits for all of our boards.

From the Waney Grain lathe we create food-safe sommeliers, fruit bowls, elegant dishes and pretty trinket pots in a wide range of wood varieties and sizes.

We produce charming Christmas trees and snowmen in a range of sizes, from 2 inch to 10 inch and in a wide variety of woods. Finished to a high standard that leaves a silk-like feel, these beautiful ornaments are popular all year round, and our customers typically buy them in odd-number collections. We also make these as tree-dangles to hang from a real Christmas tree! The natural colour palettes are tremendously broad and varied, and we use no artificial dyes or stains. Our boxed sets of 3 tree-dangles and 7 variety sample sets make delightful gifts.

Our decorated trees, called our Fantasy Forest, are gilded with gold and silver leaf, and confetti metals called tamise and abburstig. We also use a range of gilding flakes called Cosmic Shimmer and Aurora Flakes when a specific colour and texture is desired. This style of gilding gives a dappled, textured look but feels smooth to the touch. The gilding is protected with a soft sealing varnish to prevent colour fade or tarnishing. Our 'Raw' range of trees are gilded without a wax preliminary sealer, so that the grain is more pronounced.

We create tea-light holders in flat form and as Christmas trees/snowmen.
We also create candle sticks and decorative ornaments including wooden goblets and wooden bottles.

We warmly welcome requests for a bespoke service, both for our boards and our turnery.

Nick creates beautifully turned Christmas trees from native British and exotic hardwoods. I have gilded some of these trees with gold and silver leaf and been delighted with their luxurious and gleaming look.

I discovered tamise and abburstig quite recently. Originally a Japanese technique, but now produced in Italy, this is a 'confetti' of metal leaf (with tamise being large flake and abburstig being much smaller). It gives me a wonderful opportunity to create illusions of texture to my gilding.

With its broken leaf form I saw possibilities to add impressions of lichen, bark, moss and verdigris. I love creating tamise gilded trees, bowls and plates, and exploring the textures and patterns that reveal themselves as I work through the gilding process.
