A very large piece of spalted beech that I have had for a while, it pushed my Lathe to the limit to turn this one. The spalting is caused by natural processes in the wood after the tree is cut and produces the dark streaks and coloured patches. This piece is very nice looking and I have turned it to show off the patterns in the wood, as well as leaving the design quite simple.
