The ‘Love of the Sea’ is a large and noticeable piece of resin and silver jewellery with the main feature being the Mermaid handcrafted in polymer clay. The mermaid itself is coloured with pan pastels sealed with a quality resin coat. The Dolphin is crafted in Fine Silver as is the Bezel tray on which the whole piece sits. A beautiful Blue CZ sits in a Sterling silver setting. The piece is brought together on a bed of blue crushed Oyster shell representational of the sea. A handmade fishtail Silver Bail provides the support for a Sterling Silver Popcorn Chain. It is not small, being quite a statement piece at 6.5cm high by 4cms wide and with a total weight of 37.05gms. The piece is Hallmarked Sterling Silver due to the fixed Sterling Bail, but all other silver components are in .99 Fine Silver.

One or two small experimental jewellery pieces in resin led to this much more complex work in which I wanted to bring together my silver smithing skills with my ‘new found’ medium of resin. The combination of Sterling and Fine silver elements with resin shell and free painting along with production of the fine silver Bezel tray makes this a truly eclectic completely handmade piece from start to finish and was very satisfying to complete.
